At the annual meeting November 4, 2011, Dr. Ara J. Deukmedjian, Neurosurgeon, was elected President of the Brevard County Medical Society. In accepting the position Dr. Deukmedjian commented: “Healthcare today is constantly changing. Our goal is to help ensure that the patient always remains first and access to quality care is never compromised. I am truly honored to have this incredible opportunity. ”

The Brevard County Medical Society, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1904. It is a professional and scientific organization of medical and osteopathic physicians in Brevard County and the local affiliate of the Florida Medical Association and is a member of the Federation of Medicine. The society provides an environment for physicians to come together to try to find solutions to problems facing their patients. It also provides a forum for open discussion of important socioeconomic issues facing physicians, medical practices and patients.
Membership in the society is voluntary and physicians choose to join so that the team effort is most effective in attaining their goal of quality medical care. Society members are actively involved in patient advocacy, public information and health education, and community health affairs.
Dr. Deukmedjian stated: “I view the medical society as a forum for physicians who take personal responsibility for advocating for their patients to bring important issues to the forefront for discussion and resolution. We will do everything we can to help our doctors provide the best medical care to their patients. Often this means we need to tackle tough issues like “prescription pill mills” or insurance policy and facilitate change that is best for our patients and the medical community."
Actively serving the community he lives in, Dr. Deuk was also just named as Chair of the Surgery Department at Parrish Medical Center for a second year, he is an associate professor of Neurosurgery at the UCF College of Medicine, and he was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of Helping Seniors of Brevard County.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Deukmedjian on his election to President of the Brevard County Medical Society!
